Engaging in Philanthropy through Grantmaking and partnerships

Supporting the nonprofit sector through a unifying lens of finance and grantmaking

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Having worked with Nehal for almost a decade at IIE, when it was time to find a consultant to support us at GEO with organizational budgeting, I knew where to go! Nehal helped create an annual budget template for us, bringing together our staffing projections, expense projections and various revenue streams. She used her experience with the philanthropy space to encourage us to explore different models. As an organization that centers equity, it was very important for us that we had a values-aligned partner in Social Echoes.

Nehal began supporting some of our proposal budgeting work in December 2020 and we have continued to request her support throughout 20201. She has done an incredible job understanding IYF’s internal operations and budgeting process, matching this to USAID’s requirements and templates. Furthermore, Nehal’s skills in financial analysis, operations and training, have been very helpful to train in-coming finance and operations members. We are happy with her work and would recommend her to any organization needing proposal budgeting support as well as other financial analysis and structure needs. I know, IYF will continue to engage Nehal as we see the needs in the future.

Note from the Founder

Whenever someone would ask me about my profession, I am often caught with some interesting questions once they hear the words ‘nonprofit’, ‘development’, ‘philanthropy’:

“Are you a volunteer?”
“Do you get paid?”
“What is your real job?”

I suppose these questions have a lot to do with pre-conceived notions about the sector at large as well as the way one would ‘define’ it. Many a times, my approach has been to defend what development is and all it could do and, in hindsight, this fails to reflect what this work is all about and how it is has shaken the world in a powerful way.

A lot has changed since the time I plunged into the development sector nearly 20 years ago – the innovative environment of nonprofits, an intersection of business and development, accountability surrounding it and an entirely new way of defining the field. Social Echoes is thus born as a result of harnessing this change. Here I attempt to explore some of the pressing issues in philanthropy and offer handy resources and insights into the road to inclusive development.

Welcome and happy reading!
