Book Cover Design

What better day to share this than on World Book Day!

I went to a Visual Art Show at my son’s high school this week. The Show is an opportunity to check out the work of students featuring pieces from studio art, ceramics, design, photography, film, and more.

On one of the walls was a moment of serendipity for me.

The assignment? Student book jacket designs: A book about You, 20 years in the future.

A moment of pause as I stood there with the image of the just-finalized cover of my own book in my head.

The book that I wrote after 20+ years in the nonprofit sector.

The creativity in that room with students imagining their futures was inspiring. I don’t think that the ’20-years-ago’ me would have seen this coming. I was early in my career, learning the development world, figuring out where I fit. Writing a book was not on the list.

But somewhere over two decades, the lessons I learned working with so many organizations, whether in meetings, over chai, conference calls, late-night budget reviews and zoom calls, in so many ways, the book wrote itself. I just had to write it down. And as I wrote it, I felt creatively content in a way that I haven’t in years.

And here is my book cover –

Funny how things have a way of coming full circle!
